Production and products made from fibre composites

New CNC machining center

A new 5-axis CNC machining center was purchased in 2020. This means that composite components with a size of up to 3,500 x 1,500 x 1,100 mm can be machined with just one clamping. At the same time several components can also be finished.

Patented RTM-ROBOT® process

First COMPOSITES produces fibre composites in a wide variety of manufacturing processes. The RTM production area forms the largest share, and here especially the integral and structural components with high demands on static and dynamic strength and/or the requirement for special surface quality.

In addition to the RTM process, vacuum infusion processes and hand lamination techniques (especially for model and mold making) are also used.

The production quantities currently range from single pieces (prototype) to 1500 parts p.a. per component and design.

Carbon-Multi-Profil® (C-M-P)

Double trapezium profile for industrial use: handling, feeding, and gauge construction

The Carbon-Multi-Profil® is a double trapezium profile that was specially developed for handling, feeding, and gauge construction in industrial use. The Carbon-Multi-Profile® is particularly popular among machine manufactures, especially in the field of automation and handling tasks. The profile is also suitable for gauge construction and for tasks in assembly aids as well as for gripper systems.

The speciality

Unlike the conventional carbon pipes, a thread can be embedded, or a bearing seat or universal attachment point can be added in case of the Carbon-Multi-Profile®. For this, a so-called plastic or aluminium hard point is introduced in the core. The core is then covered with carbon fabrics and UD layers; together, all this is then placed into a closed tool mold and pressure-injected with epoxy resin using the RTM-ROBOT® process. The component is hardened by heating the mold. The profile can then be cut to its defined length, processed further and the previously described thread, bearing seats or similar can be attached (drilled, milled) at the points provided for the same.

Another advantage of the Carbon-Multi-Profile® are multiple standardised junction points of connected members that all work based on the same principle. These are carbon half shells, into which the Carbon-Multi-Profile® is inserted from two, three or four sides. The CMP units are then glued using an epoxy adhesive; thereby, the respective direction of the profile unit is given by the carbon shells. Differently designed carbon shells (e. g. 90° angle, T piece, cross, etc.) offer construction geometries in numerous possibilities.

Carbon tubes and carbon rods

Because a special orientation and crossing of the fibres with each other, the formation of sharp edges is avoided in the carbon tubes and carbon rods produced by us compared to conventional profiles. This eliminates the critical notch effect on these edges. This special fibre structure also offers a very significant improvement in flexural strength as well as torsional and impact strength.
The advantages of carbon-epoxy profiles

  • Light weight
  • High flexural strength
  • Good aging and fatigue resistance
  • Good dimensional stability
  • Good corrosion resistance

Carbon plates

On a system specially developed for the production of high-strength epoxy carbon plates, the 1C carbon plates are pressed under a strictly monitored tempering cycle and high pressure. High-quality carbon fabrics and non-woven fabrics with different fibre orientations are used, which on the one hand guarantee high dimensional stability and on the other (on request) a visually appealing design surface. The EP resin system used is also characterized by high dynamic and static strengths.
